Living and working as an anesthesiologist in Hawaii, although incredible, has its own set of differences and challenges as opposed to working in anesthesia on the mainland. Anesthesiology in itself is not too different. Same concepts, same professional glidepath, and same procedures. The major difference is the beautiful culture in Hawaii.

There is something special about walking into Queens hospital in Honolulu and feeling a true family atmosphere that you would not receive in a typical hospital on the mainland. As an anesthesiologist, it can certainly feel like you are alone. The vibes in Hawaii do all that they can to mitigate this feeling. Whether it be going surfing with some of my co workers from IMC or walking into work with a welcoming ‘Howzit’, I always feel like part of something special.

Anesthesiology on its own is a fantastic profession and is much better when doing it somewhere you love, Hawaii, and with a great group of professionals around you like IMC.

Mahalo!
